Most Formal Education is based on Coercion. In some jurisdictions, it can even be that parents, and sometimes even children, can face prosecution if they do not attend state sanctioned schools (which is a corruption of the intention of "compulsory education" in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - which was to make it obligatory for states to provide access to at least basic education to all without discrimination, not a license to compel children to attend state-sanctioned schools). But even in less extreme jurisdictions, the exams of the formal education system determine access to opportunities to live a meaningful life (e.g. high stakes competitive school exams that allow only some children to access desirable higher education opportunities, and then the requirement to complete the mandatory requirements of those opportunities to get the certifications that they offer), and this too is a form of coercion (curricular pressure).
This context (coercive education provision and coercive assessment) is not conducive to a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment - which is related to why we see so much school anxiety and absenteeism/truancy (and also mental health challenges as well).
Education is consent-based when the participants have the freedom to make decisions on what pursuits they wish to participate in, when, how, with whom, etc. This includes the freedom to solicit feedback from trusted people if they wish to receive that feedback, but not to be obliged to submit themselves to assessments / appraisals / exams unless they freely choose to participate in them (if they are required to do so due to curricular pressure, then it is not freely chosen)
It is impossible to be completely free of restrictive expectations that limit our choices - e.g. even within the current system, the pressure to start working means many people forgo further education. And many choose opportunities different to their interests because pursuing their interests may not allow them the financial security they wish to have.
And it may not be possible for those in coercive education to fully opt out and join \swarm it^ - yet. But can at least some of their educational needs be met in a consensual way? Only time will tell
